The Bureau of Labor Statistics’s new numbers show that for-hire trucking jobs increased by 3200 jobs last month, up from just 100 new jobs in December. This represents 35.3% of all non-farm job growth in the US as the unemployment rate hits a new low of 6.6%.
Even though this is considerable growth, it is below what economists were projecting for January.
It is obviously still an encouraging sign, as January 2014’s numbers show 19,900 more jobs than January 2013, and 157,100 more jobs than the low of March 2010.
These statistics do not include other trucking-related jobs, such as drivers for private fleets.
