For your sake, and the sake of those around you, please be sure to rest the appropriate amount on your drives. Renato Valasquez’s life will never be the same after February 13.
The reports state different numbers, but Valasquez was driving for at least 35 hours on less than 4 hours of sleep before hitting a state trooper vehicle and an Illinois tollway vehicle which was being worked on. Both vehicles were fully illuminated. The state trooper was severely injured and a Illinois tollway worker was killed in the crash.
Blood tests show no drugs or alcohol were in Valasquez’s system at the time of the crash.
His company, DND International Inc., apparently has had multiple violations on allowing drivers to drive illegally long hours. It is unclear if Valasquez was encouraged by his company or not to put in the long hours.
Velasquez was held Wednesday in lieu of $150,000 bail.
